Our IF History

We’re in love.
We’re happy.
We’re infertile.

We started TTC in December 2004.

In November 2005, we were diagnosed with Obstructive Azoospermia. A March 2006 biopsy confirmed we had sperm for TESA.

In April 2006, IVF with TESA/ICSI was unsuccessful (chemical pregnancy).  FETs in August 2006 and January 2007 were also unsuccessful.

In November 2007, I had laproscopic surgery to remove mild endometriosis.

Between May 2007 and July 2009, we completed ELEVEN dIUIs, all unsuccessful.

In August 2009, we decided to try IVF again, this time with a donor. Started stims for IVF #2 on 9/5/09, had retrieval 9/15/09, but due to defective trigger shot no eggs were retrieved.  Started stims for IVF #3 on 10/23/09, had retrieval 11/3/09, transferred 3 embryos on 11/6/09. After 4 years, 11 months, and 19 days of trying to conceive, we found out we were pregnant for the first time on 11/19/09!

Our daughter, called Bubs around here, was born July 29, 2010.

One thing I’ve learned during the five years it took us to get pregnant: You can keep going long after you think you can’t.

  1. Have you ever tried a GC?

  2. @meaghan: I’m guessing GC stands for Gestational Carrier? No, we haven’t pursued this. We’ve never been suggested to by our RE. He suggested that the reason the IUIs didn’t work is because of my endometriosis, and IVF bypasses endo. Our first IVF failed because of the poor quality of embryos. RE anticipates that the embryos created from this IVF will be much higher quality than our previous IVF because of using a donor.

If you have info to share, though, I’d love to read it! My email is babyattheend (at) gmail (dot) com

  3. Your bravery and strenght is admirable. I’m not even sure how i stumbled onto your blog, but found your story and information touching and helpful. I will try to email sometime soon, however, i can’t claim to be an expert in knowing anything about Gestational Carrier’s or infertility issues. I’m just a women interested in learning more about it, and how good women that would make great mothers find the best way to do so. I have in fact had a child recently, where i have a sister (one out of 4) who is having trouble. So i’ve been interested in learning more to understand what she is going thur. I’ve personally wanted to be a GC when the time comes. So i’ve only gained information from my basic research on it from the surrogate end.
